There are only two more weeks left in the NFL regular season so it’s crunch time around here. You know who the favorites are. We know who the favorites are. So as we get prepared for the playoffs, let’s talk about the biggest Super Bowl contenders as well as current Super Bowl ticket prices. Here’s our breakdown of the competition, the latest Super Bowl 53 odds out of Vegas, and the dollars you’ll need to spend to get to Atlanta. We’re going to keep updating our picks, the official odds, and ticket prices each month, so check back in January for a last-minute update before the big game!
Super Bowl 53 Contenders
Not much has changed since last month, at least according to the oddsmakers. The Saints still lead the pack, followed by the Rams and the Chiefs, but each of these point-scoring powerhouses have cooled off a bit recently. And look at the Patriots, still hangin’ in there! The Chargers and the Bears also feel like real threats after their performances over the past couple of weeks. Here’s a quick list of our current favorites to win Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta.
The New Orleans Saints
At 12-2, the Saints are still the best team in the NFL. Despite that upset road loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13, they looked dominant this week as all the other Super Bowl favorites around them fell, including the Rams, Chiefs, and Patriots. The Saints played a tough Monday-night game against the Panthers and managed to eke out a win, largely due to a great performance by their defense (who doesn’t often get a lot of credit). Despite throwing zero touchdown passes during the game, Drew Brees is still the most accurate quarterback in football… even if their offense isn’t looking tip top lately. If the Saints can force teams to play them at home in New Orleans where they’re truly tough during the playoffs, their odds of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy look really good. Oh, and they only need to win one more game this season to do that… and both of their last two games are at home.
The Los Angeles Rams
People still believe in the Rams, another offensive machine that’s been having some difficulty as of late. Quarterback Jared Goff hasn’t been looking like himself over the past three games – an ugly win over the Lions, a road loss to the Bears, and then an upset against the Eagles have got people talking. He turned the ball over as many times in those three games as he did in their first eleven (that’d be eight times). At a point in the season when teams are supposed to be peaking, the Rams are looking sluggish. Head Coach Sean McVay says, “Two games are not going to define our season, but we’ve got to find a way to get better in a hurry.” But despite cries that the team has “lost their way,” Vegas still doesn’t buy it, giving them the second-best odds to win the big game. But remember, they still have to get past the Saints (most likely) in New Orleans to get there.
The Kansas City Chiefs
Another team that’s been the favorite to win the Super Bowl all season, the Chiefs recently lost a nailbiter to the Chargers and they’re now tied at 11-3 in the AFC West. So yeah, this explosive team led by the quarterback Patrick Mahomes might have some competition on their hands. The Chiefs’ weakest link is still their defense, so their dynamic offense will have to carry them through the playoffs. They certainly don’t look like they’re having deeper issues like the Rams and, as of right now, they’ve got a first-round bye as the top seed in the AFC… so long as they don’t slip up for the rest of the season. They should be able to handle their final competition, the Raiders and the Seahawks, but if they can’t, the Chargers could steal their spot… or the Patriots… or the Texans.
The New England Patriots
We refused to list them last month, but Vegas usually knows its stuff. Despite a road loss to the Steelers, the Patriots still have the fourth-best odds to win it all in Atlanta. With Tom Brady’s interception in the red zone and failure to make a last-minute comeback in the game on Sunday, they’ve probably lost the chance to get a first-round bye in the playoffs and force the road to the Super Bowl through Foxborough again. Brady hasn’t been looking like himself and this team simply doesn’t play as well on the road… and that’s where they’ll be headed in the second round of the playoffs if things stay as is.

What about the other teams creeping into the picture late in the season? With a huge victory over the Chiefs, the Chargers and Philip Rivers look like they’re for real. The Chicago Bears and Mitch Trubisky have proven they are also a force to be reckoned with after a win over the Rams, the Packers, and (what?) a solid 10-4 record. The Houston Texans are gunning for a first-round bye and the Steelers have clung onto their playoff hopes with a tough win over the Patriots.
