Miami is known for its great weather, beaches, and nightlife, so there’s a reason Dan Marino said, “We should have a Super Bowl every year here.” The city is also famous for its art, design, music, Latin vibes, cuisine, and multicultural communities.
Super Bowl 2020 (LIV)
South Florida finally put an end to a long spate of rejection when the 2020 Super Bowl bid committee were finally awarded the opportunity to host the Super Bowl LIV (54).
The game, which will be held at the newly renovated Miami Gardens’ stadium, will represent the 11th time in the history of the Super Bowl that the game has been hosted in South Florida, a record that is matched by New Orleans.
However, the chance to host the Super Bowl in South Florida once again has been a long time coming. It will be the first in the region since 2010, marking the longest gap in history between visits. It will also be a chance for major celebrations, with the Super Bowl LIV being held in the year of the NFL’s 100th anniversary. Because of this, 2020 Super Bowl tickets are in high demand.
Rumor has it that it was Dolphins owner Steve Ross’ investment of over $450 million into the renovation of the Miami Dolphins’ stadium in Miami Gardens that grabbed the city the hosting rights in the NFL’s anniversary year.
The Super Bowl LIV will be the 11th time that the big game has been played in South Florida. Miami beat off competition from Tampa and New Orleans to win the deal. Pitching to the NFL owner last, South Florida’s Super Bowl bid committee selected former Super Bowl star Hall-of-Fame fullback Larry Csonka to present. Csonka, who was named most valuable player when the Dolphins won the 1974 Super Bowl VIII, was probably an inspired choice. “Miami has the facilities to make it a festival,” he later told the NFL Network after the news had broken that Miami had been triumphant. “I think that’s going to happen with the Centennial game. I plan on being there.”
Many people believed that Florida’s lack of a state-of-the-art stadium that ruled South Miami out of its previous attempts to host the 50th and 51st Super Bowls, which were awarded to Santa Clara and Houston respectfully.
While plans as to what will be happening throughout the city are still very much at a high level, the 526-page bid document did provide insights into some of the key locations of the week-long Super Bowl celebration. The core of the activities will take place at the Super Bowl Park in downtown Miami, and the major events and venues, including the NFL Experience, team hotels, and media headquarters will be located in Miami-Dade.
The 2020 Super Bowl will be held at the home of the Miami Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium. The stadium has a total capacity of 65,326 for football games, of which there are 27,397 general 19” seats in the lower deck, and 34,736 in the upper deck. There are an additional 10,209 of the larger club 21″ seats with chair back and armrests. The 193 executive suites in the stadium, each of which holds between 10 and 24 seats, have a total of 3,198 seats.
